Rocket Car Regional Finals

You may remember from a February Newsletter that Year 7 students had designed and made their own rocket cars for Race for the Line. This is a model car challenge which aims to encourage students to work together to make a foam rocket car powered by a small solid rocket motor which they then raced with their peers.

The winners, Kayleigh, Ellis, Crystal-Rose and Scarlett, made it through to the regional finals which were held at Portsmouth Naval base on Thursday. The group spent the morning in a hanger which contained mine sweepers waiting to be repaired, improving on their original design, and then raced the car against other schools. Although they didn’t come first they were in the top five fastest cars with a speed of 55mph.

It was also a great opportunity to speak to Navy personnel about their work and the careers available.
