Urdang Academy Dance Workshop

posted 6 Aug 2018, 02:26 by N Nelson

On 3rd July, current and aspiring GCSE dance students took part in a workshop with Mukeni Nel, a second year student from Urdang Academy, London, a school which offers dance and musical theatre training. The students were really excited about the prospect of learning from Mukeni who is prominent dancer on instagram as well as having a featured role in Urdang’s 80s medley routine which went viral on YouTube.

Having gained a reputation of excellence for his technical abilities, Mukeni led the students through a stretch class, progressing onto jazz leaps and turns. He then finished with a routine from Urdang’s end of year showcase. Ben Thompson from year 10 was pinpointed as having excellent leaps and lines and Oli Brunton, year 8, was also a stand out for his commitment and tenacity during the routine.

Mukeni said 'Coming down from London to do a workshop with the kids was an amazing experience. They all did very well and pushed themselves to try things they have never done before. Massive thank you to Miss Seaton for letting me come down and work with them. I hope to come back soon'.

Miss Seaton said 'I think it is so important for students to be inspired and engaged both in and out of the studio and I am so proud that we can offer our students outstanding opportunities to work with professional and influential dancers. It really does make our Academy unique; many of our students already have CVs which are highly enviable to any aspiring young dancer. The students were fantastic and really pushed themselves to learn new skills and improve their existing abilities which will help them as they move into their next year of study'.
