Year 8 & 9 Options Evening – Tuesday 12th February 2019

posted 16 Jan 2019, 21:23 by N Nelson   [ updated 12 Feb 2019, 02:12 ]

Over the course of the next half term, students in Year 8 and Year 9 will be asked to select some of the courses that they would like to study through to Year 11. These are important decisions and we would like to take this opportunity to explain how we intend to give you and your child the information and advice needed.

The Year 8 and 9 Options Evening is on Tuesday 12th February 2019, 4pm-7pm and is for students to attend with their parents/carers. Details of all courses on offer will be available along with a presentation about the curriculum and the issues that students should consider when making their decisions. We strongly advise that students and parents/carers should attend this meeting so that they are fully informed about the transfer to Key Stage 4. The presentations will take place at 4:15pm and 5:45pm for year 8 and 4:45pm and 6:15pm for the year 9 in the Theatre.

Throughout this term students will be able to discuss their option choices with their subject teachers who can advise them what Key Stage 4 courses entail and to answer any questions they may have. Additionally, there has been talks during the school day about the options available from staff in assemblies and drop in sessions after school.

On the evening subject departments will also be providing information so you and your child are well informed about the options available. This will be particularly important for ‘new’ subjects that they have not studied before. A copy of the Options Booklet will be distributed on the evening.

The deadline for returning the completed and signed option choice form is Friday 1 March. Forms should be returned to your child’s tutor. A letter will be sent to you as soon as the information has been processed and the curriculum finalised.

We realise that this is an important decision time for students. With this in mind we would like to emphasise that the Academy will be giving as much support and guidance as we possibly can.
