I have had the pleasure of helping with Hampshire’s Isle of Wight Education Awards and I am proud to say that three of our staff have been nominated for an award (Unsung Hero, Unleashing the Potential and Wider Contributions to the Community) at the ceremony being held at Quay Arts in November. As part of my role I will be visiting the award nominees from other Island schools and I am looking forward to meeting them and finding out more about the inspirational work they do with our children.

I am so proud of all our students who put themselves forward for the auditions of Islands Got Talent, several of whom are now in the finals! Our Elite dance team, who won last year, are defending their title and Hayley Andrews, Abi Hawkes and Oli Brunton will be singing.

Thank you to Cambridge University who came in to work with a group of our students this week. It is so important that students are exposed to a range of opportunities on and off the Island including apprenticeships, industries and universities. Our careers provision is improving year on year and students are able to access a range of workshops and experiences as part of thinking about their next steps.

On Thursday 4th October we are holding our Open Evening for parents of students in year 5 and 6. The evening runs from 4pm to 7pm and I will be holding two talks at 4.30pm and 5.30pm. You will be able see performances from students and try food served in the canteen as well as speak to staff and students and have a look around the new building.

Congratulations to this weeks Principal Star Matthew Wallace (Y11) who has returned this year with a fantastic attitude towards school and his studies. Staff have been amazed at the resilience and determination he has shown in applying himself and we are proud of him for all he has overcome.
