Parental Engagement & Family Learning

At Ryde Academy we believe that parents and carers, along with other stakeholders (all staff, students, governors and the wider community), are integral to Academy life and student achievement. We want parents/carers to be involved wherever possible and for the Academy to be a welcoming place to visit. A big part of this is our Family Learning programme to which all parents, carers and family members are welcome.

An introduction to golf at Westridge was a great opportunity to try out golf. The first two sessions were held on the driving range, developing skills before trying them out on the course. It looks like they had great fun and all participants have booked to carry on with more golf sessions at Westridge.

Hallowe'en pottery seems to have become something of an annual favourite, and participants made some ghoulish ceramic night-light holders for Hallowe'en.

Eleko is a simple resist technique (similar to batik) that is traditionally used in a number of African cultures for decorating fabrics. It is a quick, simple and effective technique for producing decorative fabric pieces.

On Wednesday 15 June we held a family learning workshop to make a 3d plaque. Well done to all the families who took part. We were particularly impressed with the owl (centre of the photo) made by Cerys in Year 7.

Block Printing

posted 13 Jun 2016, 02:35 by Nat Admin

Our last family learning session before the half term break was block printing. Parents/carers came in with their children to create a decorative panel using a quick and fun printing technique that could also be used to decorate greeting cards, t-shirts, wrapping paper, etc.
